How to Safely Throw Away Contaminated Masks, Wipes, and Gloves

POST2
Coronavirus pandemic has forced medical practitioners and the general public to exercise high levels of hygiene and safety. Therefore, many medical wastes, such as contaminated masks, wipes, hand sanitizers, gloves, disinfectants, and cleaning supplies, are generated every day.

These medical wastes have to be disposed off carefully in line with the health policy.

Here is a list of some of the contaminated medical wastes and how to throw them away safely:

Gloves

Gloves are essential protection materials for all health workers. However, they quickly get contaminated. Therefore, they should be removed and replaced with new ones when they get soiled.

Contaminated gloves should be carefully disposed of in a trash can. It is recommended that they should be put in a bag before disposal.

Masks

People wear surgical and face masks to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Used and contaminated masks should be carefully disposed of. Paper masks should be removed and disposed of after use. However, cloth masks can be cleaned and reused.

Wipes

Many people think that wipes are “flushable,” but they are not. Therefore, cosmetic wipes, baby wipes, and bathroom cleaning wipes should not be flushed or recycled. Instead, they should be put in the rubbish bin.

Hand sanitizers, disinfectants, and cleaning supplies

During this period of coronavirus pandemic, hand sanitizers and cleaning products are used regularly in every household. These products should not be poured down the drain. Instead, you should read the labels on each product and throw them away accordingly.

Final Thought

Wipes, masks, gloves, hand sanitizers, and other protective items are used regularly during this coronavirus pandemic period. Therefore, the wastes generated from these items should be disposed off safely.
