Where Do We Throw Out Medical Paraphernalia at Home?

7 1
Leaving your medical paraphernalia lying about can be dangerous. If not disposed of properly, they may end up becoming a harm to others.
Some medical paraphernalia includes unused medicines and devices used to administer medications such as syringes and inhalers.

Unused Medicines

Most medicines such as pills, over-the-counter drugs, liquids, etc. can be thrown into the trash unless their label specifically states otherwise. To properly throw unused or expired medications, you should:
•    Mix the leftover medications with substances that are inedible to make them unappealing to children and animals.
•    Place it in a sealable container.
•    Throw the container into the trash.
•    Use a marker to cover all personal information found on the labels of the medicine packaging before discarding them.

Medical Devices

There are some medical paraphernalia that you need to be careful of when disposing of.
Inhalers, or any aerosol products, are particularly dangerous when they are punctured or thrown into a fire. You can either recycle them or safely throw them into your household trash.

Syringes or other injectable medical devices should be disposed of in a sharps disposal container. You can ask your local pharmacy to obtain one. It’s important to properly dispose of sharp objects so they don’t harm anyone.

Conclusion

Different medications and medical devices can unintentionally become a danger to others when they’re not disposed of properly. Each type of medical paraphernalia has its own regulations set for safe and proper disposal that should be followed.
