5 Health Care Waste Management Methods

5 2
The most unique and hazardous wastes mostly come from hospitals, producing sharp objects and pharmaceutical wastes. These are hazardous to health because used needles and syringes, soiled dressings, blood, other bacteria, and even contaminated and expired drugs can release pathogens and other toxins. These will affect the health of the people and the environment.

Although regulations have already been imposed in many developing countries, many countries are still suffering from the lack of waste management implementation. The Earth is continuously harmed when these hazardous wastes go through waste-to-energy incineration processes.

With that said, here are the 5 waste management methods that each harmed country can practice and impose on their hospitals and clinics.

●    Recycling

Plastics, papers, and glass can be recycled. This is why the healthcare industry should promote recycling or require clinics and hospitals to recycle.

●    Biological Reprocessing

Organic matter such as paper, plants, and food scraps can go through the process of biological decomposition, which produces benefits for agriculture—this process of reprocessing speeds up the decomposition of these organic matter.

●    Sanitary Landfill

The government should work with the private hospitals and clinics to invest in a well-engineered dumpsite for the wastes. The land will have layers designed perfectly for each type of waste.

●    Plasma Gasification

This process converts hazardous wastes into non-harmful slag, which will later be used as syngas.

●    Composting

Last on the list is composting, which naturally turns organic waste into rich manure. Organic waste can turn everyone’s garden into ones with rich soils.

Final Words

The tips mentioned above will not only help the environment. They will also ensure the safety of the healthcare personnel and civilians so that they don’t get contaminated or infected with the germs and bacterias that are found in medical waste.
